Fresnay to Heurteauville, Normandy
Saturday 27th August
Although we were leaving Fresnay-sur-Sarthe this morning, we first walked up the steep hill again to the village to see the Saturday market. We bought fruit and veg and the boys chose some goats cheese.
Evening view of the typical Normandy farmhouse across the road from us.
Sunday 28th August
This morning we had to say goodbye to our dear friend Graham as he set off on his last leg back to Calais and home. However, he had this afternoon and evening to look forward to, staying with his daughter Clare and family in Canterbury.
We decided to take is easy for a while and joined our zoom Church service at home which we very much enjoyed being part of. After lunch, we set off for some exercise following the grassy path beside the River Seine to the small car ferry to Jumieges. Boat-watching en route.
Quite a big one, but not as big as some.

Nearly to the ferry and we passed the France Passion site that Jacki and Philip have stayed at. There were 4 vans there when we came through yesterday - none today.
The Mairie wishes all to know the name of the village they are passing on the river.
The houses are so beautiful.
And so we reached the ferry. After drinking our flask in a little picnic area here, we boarded the ferry which took all of 5 minutes to reach the opposite bank! We didn't walk into the town of Jumieges or to the ruined abbey, but had lots of views of the latter as we walked by the river.
Looking back to 'our' side.
Admiring some lovely ducks in a garden.
Finding a geocache.
We shared the ferry back with this impressive bike....
Back on our side, taking a photo of the garden behind the picnic area, complete with blue door indicating the steps up! Thought of you, Wendy F. with your garden on a hill!
Aaahh! Thought I'd better mention that we did a little bit of scrumping today! The red and green one was in a box with a label saying please take some - the green one came from a tree in the picnic area. Together, they made for a super pudding, stewed with raisins and served with custard (aaah, another confession, we brought forbidden packet instant custard from home!)
Us beyond the anchor at sunset. Note empty pitch to our right.
Then I remembered I had a picture on my phone from last night with Graham on his pitch:
Between each pitch is a small palm tree, which at night look quite spectacular. No huge ships passing by this evening - probably observing Sunday.Pastures new again tomorrow.
