La Palmeraie, Heurteauville - Beuvron-en-Auge - Lison

Image
Monday 29th August We left this lovely little site this morning..... .... and drove beside the Seine at low tide. We came to a small town east of Caen - Beuvron-en-Auge, listed as one of the prettiest villages of France.  Once we were parked up in a shady spot on the Aire de Camping Cars by the disused station,    we looked for lunch and were certainly not disappointed with the Creperie.  John's is meat and cheese, mine smoked salmon and egg. A beautiful church, local buildings and park to see..... .... and a chap with a model railway cum railway artifacts museum. Tuesday 30th August Today we've come west of Bayeux (plan to revisit there next week), stopping off for a while in Cerisy-la-Foret to take a look at the abbey.  Rather than stop now, we will come here next week too as it looks interesting.  Liked it's post box too. Now we are at a France Passion chicken and goat farm near Lison - that's our van to the left of the house and white shed. The g...

Fresnay to Heurteauville, Normandy

Image
Saturday 27th August Although we were leaving Fresnay-sur-Sarthe this morning, we first walked up the steep hill again to the village to see the Saturday market.  We bought fruit and veg and the boys chose some goats cheese. Then we moved on further north into Normandy to be within a day's journey for Graham to get back to Calais tomorrow.  We found a really lovely camperstop (a very small campsite) in the village of Heurteauville, beside the River Seine.  We watched some huge ships pass by while we were having our dinner and then this one came by while out for an evening stroll. Evening view of the typical Normandy farmhouse across the road from us. Sunday 28th August This morning we had to say goodbye to our dear friend Graham as he set off on his last leg back to Calais and home.  However, he had this afternoon and evening to look forward to, staying with his daughter Clare and family in Canterbury. We decided to take is easy for a while and joined our zoom ...

Exploring Fresnay-sur-Sarthe

What a beautiful place this is!  We had a glimpse of the river as we drove over the little bridge when we arrived yesterday, but this morning we discovered the medieval town up on the cliffs overlooking it.   Walking over the bridge towards the town. Some really interesting buildings on the way up. The original gateway to the town. We wandered around the narrow streets looking for somewhere to eat lunch.... on one of the corners, we came across a Thai Restaurant - seemed unusual in the back of beyond, but we decided to give it a go... John had the curry.  Looks like John had beer to drink and I had handwash!  Graham had duck and I had chicken.  Very tasty, but not quite up to the standard of Horsham's Little Apple. A cool church to spend some moments in. Then the amazing views from the park behind the towers. Two boys beneath the towers! Then down over the footbridge looking back to the road bridge, old mill and weir. This is to remind us of the name ...
