From Merry to the Loire

This morning we left Merry - our 2 pitches looking very bare

and began our journey towards the River Loire.  We've come to a France Passion in the village of Thauvenay, near Sancerre.  We are surrounded by vineyards and parked in the forecourt of Cave Eric Louis.

Our degustation was most enjoyable, with a very knowledgeable young lady who spoke excellent English explaining all about their various wines.  We then took a walk among the vines on the hillside - acres and acres of them.

One of the ancient chateaux

The viaduct that was built in WW1 for munitions to be carried by train.

The canal that follows the Loire, looking towards Sancerre on the hill.  We visited Sancerre in 2014 when we followed a long stretch of the river to the sea, but can't remember it too well, so visiting again tomorrow.

Went and had a look at the canal lock.

A very quiet evening (without all the chatter from our motorbiking friends at Merry!)
